Our History

The churches of Christ are part of a movement that began over 200 years ago to lead people in the Christian world to return to the Bible as the sole source of spiritual teaching and guidance.  To date, churches of Christ have over 40,000 congregations and 5 million members worldwide.

The Seward Church of Christ has been in existence since 1962.

We are non-denominational and have no central headquarters. The head of the church is none other than Jesus Christ himself  (Ephesians 1:22-23).

Each congregation of the churches of Christ is autonomous, and it is the Word of God that unites us into One Faith (Ephesians 4:3-6).  We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and his holy Apostles.  We are Christians only!

"And they continued steadfastly in the Apostle's doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayer. . ."  Acts 2:42

What We Believe

We believe that God created the world, and humanity, to reflect His holy nature, but the world has been corrupted because of the entry of sin into the world.

We believe all people bear the image of God, but are in desperate need of redemption from their weak and sinful nature.

We believe God longs to set His creation free from the effects of sin, and has begun a process of redemption through the work of His Son, Jesus Christ, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe all people are invited to become a part of God's plan of redemption by believing in Jesus Christ, repenting, or turning away from their sinful past, being baptized in the name of Christ, and receiving the transforming gift of God's Holy Spirit.

We believe the Bible is God's inspired, infallible word, and that it is sufficient to equip us for the ministry that God has called us to do.

We believe our mission, as a congregation of followers of Christ in Seward, is to proclaim the GOSPEL of Christ, and imitate Jesus in ministering to the sick and sinful, the hungry and homeless, and all who need the good news of God's redeeming love.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."  John 3:16-17
